Use case

Feature announcement GIFs that show the change in five seconds

A good launch GIF shows one thing changing, readable without sound or a click. Record it, frame it, and export it sized for where you’re posting.

How to · 3 steps

Step by step

  1. 1

    Record the one moment

Do the new thing once, slowly; Tidy up trims the fumbling at either end.

  2. 2

    Zoom and caption it

Zoom in so the change fills the frame, and add a short caption as it happens.

  3. 3

    Export for the destination

Pick X, LinkedIn or Slack and Lazygif fits that platform’s limit.

Show one change, not the whole product

You get two or three seconds in a feed. Pick the one before-and-after that sells it: the empty state filling in, three clicks becoming one. Aim for 5–12 seconds.

Make the first frame carry the message

Feeds show a still before the GIF loads, and some people turn animation off. Set Picture shown first under Canvas → Playback to the most telling moment, and keep on-screen text at least 12–14 px tall at the final width.

FAQ

Questions, answered

How long should a feature announcement GIF be?
5–12 seconds. If you need more, it’s two features: split them and use Export each clip separately.
Should I post a GIF or a video?
A GIF for a short silent loop that plays inline; video for narration or anything over about 20 seconds. Lazygif exports both.
Can I post the same GIF everywhere?
Usually. Under 5 MB works for LinkedIn, X’s apps and Notion. See GIF size limits.
