How to · 3 steps

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open your GIF or video

Drop the file onto Lazygif, or open it.

  2. 2

    Set the speed

Select a clip and pick 0.5×, 1×, 2× or 4×; press S to split off just the slow part first.

  3. 3

    Export

A faster clip is shorter, so it fits size limits more easily.

Speed up, slow down or cut?

All three change timing; pick by what the viewer needs to see.

  • Speed up a long scroll, drag or form filling in, so people still see how you got there.
  • Cut waiting, spinners and hunting for a tab: split with S and press Delete.
  • Slow down to 0.5× the one quick moment people must catch.

Faster means smaller

At 2× a clip needs half the frames; at 4×, a quarter. That makes speeding up idle stretches one of the cheapest ways to compress a GIF. Keep the click itself at 1× so people see what was clicked.

Can I speed up only part of a GIF?
Yes. Press S at the start and end of the slow part, select that piece and set its speed.
How do I slow down a GIF?
Select the clip and choose 0.5×. It plays twice as long, so the file grows too.
